- Solid Keeps its own shape. An ice cube, a rock, and your favorite toy are all solids.
- Liquid Flows and takes the shape of whatever holds it. Water and juice are liquids.
- Gas Spreads out to fill all the space it can. The air in a balloon and steam from a kettle are gases.
- Heat it up. Warmth melts ice into water, and boiling turns water into steam.
- Cool it down. Cooling does the reverse: steam becomes water, and freezing turns water back into ice. Same stuff, different state!
Did you know? Water is the superstar of matter: you can see it as a solid, a liquid, and a gas in your own kitchen, all in one day.
